Taste of Ghana: Local Eats
There are so many great local foods, I will try even more once I return. If you are up to trying new things give these a try:
Banku- This is a type of swallow that’s paired with different soups or fish and pepper. It is made with a mixture of maize and cassava. My favorite thing to pair it with is tilapia with pepper. Okra soup is also a popular pair in Ghana.
Kenkey- a type of swallow that is made from maize and commonly eaten with pepper sauce.
Fufu – a type of swallow (my favorite) made with plantain and casava, it has a slightly sweat taste, this is typically paired with light soup.
Grilled Pork, beef, chicken- This can commonly be considered street food. There are many stops along the way where you can pull over and grab. It is seasoned with lots of seasons and spices then grilled.
YAM fries- This is cut and fried yams. They are even better than potato fries.
Fanyogo- is a yogurt that is usually served frozen, if you see it please stop and get it. You will not regret it.
