Jamacia Mission 2018
Welcome!
Imagine: Waking up, going down stairs and telling your mom you want to take the family business Global for your 21st birthday. This was in August and my birthday is in December, this craziness will be the tone for the whole trip!
Lets dive in!
WHEN GOD GIVES YOU THE VISION, HE WILL GIVE YOU THE PROVISIONS!
The idea sounded amazing, I told my mom, and she was so supportive and proud she discussed it with the board and before you knew it, I had a team! We met every week mapping out all the logistics. There was not much time to fundraise, but we did throw a small one at a restaurant, but the turnout was not so great because it was so last minute, but when you are doing God’s work, he will always make a way. Just so happen there was a group of guys there who wanted to know what we were doing and once I told them they all made great contributions to my mission. I was able to go into Walmart and buy everything needed for the moms and babies in Jamacia. We decided we wanted to make bags for moms and babies, including wipes, pampers hygiene products, new shoes, Christmas toys and ect. We had over 50 bags packed and ready. Then it was time to look at shipping cost, WOW! This is where things get crazy, since we did not have enough to cover the shipping cost, we were at a standstill the week before the trip. Again, but God, we one of our team members worked for Delta Airlines and her and her family flew for free. Imagine packing up 15 suitcases and sending them off with them. of course, crazy got crazier and Ms. Hope was stopped at the airport in Jamacia to get her bags searched. They tried to give us a problem about the number of bags since it was a turnaround trip, but they believed in our mission and let them continue. They literally met our contact in Jamaica outside the airport, of course they could not find each other although the whole time they were standing right by each other. They then gave all the items and yep, went right back into the airport to head back home. I felt so bad for Mrs. Hopes mom (lol), she packed a small bag thinking she would be able to spend a little time in Jamacia in the sun. We were a nervous wreck back at home praying to get the text message that it was complete, and they were heading home. The following week we were off in our HOD Global Gear ready to serve. We stayed at a resort in Ocho Rio, which was about 30 minutes from the women clinic. One of our team members is from Jamacia, so Mama Sharon was able to find us a place and set of our connects while in Jamacia.
IT’S MISSION DAY!
We are packed up and ready to go in our nice station waging driven by the great Uncle Chippy. The car fitted about four people, but we had six people, which meant two were on their knees in the trunk, but we made it work. We made it to the center and for just a sec I felt like a celebrity arriving at a show. Everyone was standing outside waiting for us. We started with introductions and our member Nurse Sheila teaching baby and adult CPR. As we were preparing the bags in the back, we realized that as we were putting things out, they were disappearing. Turns out the nurses at the center were taking things for themselves. We decided to just give out the items and end it early, but they were still taking things. Again, i felt like a celebrity, because our security guard came hopping over shares because it got a little crazy, we had to hurry and just grab everything and go to the car. We pulled over up the street because the women and children were following us. This was the best part ever, we continued giving out items and mixing and mingling, giving whatever snacks we had. We took blood pressure on the side of the road. One old man told us “We do not have high blood pressure like you all do in the states, you all stress too much. When we do not have something, we make it work.” I could not have asked for a better day it was so fun and just full of love. Although some things were taken, we had to remember the nurses are in need.
MISSION & BIRTHDAY TURN UP!
We started going to a place called Fire Water, this is a small pond like pool, where one part of the water naturally can catch fire. The history of this beauty is it were the ancestors used to come to heal their bodies, and it still has those same benefits today. It is filled with minerals. To exit you must walk through the fire and as scary as it is you won’t get burned. This was our spiritual time to sit and thank God. From there it was time for Margaritaville, just picture the shots coming, we danced all day into the night. (LOL) It was only us six there and about 5 workers and we turned that place out!
It is finally time to head back to the resort and of cousre more craziness, we have a boot on our car. We are all going off (LOL), because they told us we could park there, until our member Dishika asked how was it to have it removed and it was only about $30 US dollars.
Overall this was the best trip! My heart was full and I was so blessed to be young and have found what my God given purpose.
STAY TUNE FOR MY NEXT TRIP, AS I FOLLOW MY PURPOSE! BYYYYYYEEEEEEEE!
