Dreams Do Come True: Ghana Mission 2023
Africa was my ultimate goal, when God gave me the vision to give back globally! When I first told my mom the vision, I stated I wanted to do it for my 21st birthday which was four months away. Africa is quite expensive, so we went to Jamacia. By the grace of God, I finally made it to Africa, Ghana to be exact! Ya girl accomplished her DREAM! When I tell you God worked in my favor from the start of this trip. We started with a fundraiser at J.R. Cricket, which was a blessing because this fundraiser was thrown for us by Mrs. Janza. We were able to raise so much to be able to carry this whole mission out. We began packing in august, putting all items in suitcase, getting ready for take-off. Usually, I have a team of 5, but unfortunately because it is required to have a yellow fever shot to enter Ghana, they could not attend. I was so nervous not to have my team and I had never flown alone. I cried like a baby(lol). Soon as I checked my bag in, I just got so sick due to nerves. My team and family were there to see me off. I was meeting Mrs. Adriene (aunt), founder of WO YE BRA, which is a program to teach women to sew, to be able to sew reusable maxi pads, and to have a skill to make an income! I was meeting her in New York (lol) you would think I had to travel to Accra alone. Before you know it, I was saying my goodbyes and off to find my gate. I made it to New York and finally grabbed a bite to eat. I was so happy to see my aunt walking down! From there we were off to Ghana! This was a 10-hour trip (whoa). On the flight we were provided with a blanket, pillow, toothbrush, and toothpaste. FYI bring your own blanket, the ones they provide are very thin and the plane is freezing. You receive a snack shortly after you board and from there you get Dinner and breakfast.
I completed my mission at Kwahu Nteso village in Ghana. We provided lunch, school supplies, hygiene products, toys, and provided four moms with paying their rent for the year. This was a dream come true. I had such a great time! To see the recap watch the video on the home page of www.humanitarianoverseas.com, YOU DO NOT WANT TO MISS IT! We arrived in the village the night before and stayed in a hotel close by. Guess how much money it cost, ONLY 20 BUCKS! We spent the night dancing away celebrating for the next day! The drive was about three hours from the city, but the ride was so amazing, so much to see! The village was at the top of the mountain and seeing the fresh water fall in different places was just breath taking. Once we made it to the top we stopped at the biggest hotel in Ghana, “The Rock City Hotel”. It was so nice, one of the highlights there was all the chiefs of the villages came to have lunch dressed in all their gold and kente cloth. Such a nice thing to see. This trip was everything I dreamed of! Stay tune for Ghana Mission 2024 in October!
